Local Attractions / Places to visit

Willow Barn is in a perfect situation for visiting the many National Trust properties and gardens in the area, within easy reach of Bath, and ideally placed for touring the Cotswolds and the rest of Wiltshire.

Holt has an excellent village shop, post office and two pubs – one is the award winning gastro pub TOLL GATE INN. There are many more country pubs and restaurants nearby.

Melksham is 10 minutes away and has a Sainsbury’s, Boots chemist, Chinese and Indian restaurants, and many other shops. Leeke’s is an interesting department store which sells walking boots, outdoor and sports clothing, furniture/household goods, gifts and also has a snack bar and coffee shop.

Trowbridge, also 10 minutes away, is a larger town that has a large Tesco superstore. It also has Boots, WH.Smith, Next, Monsoon and many other shops.

Bradford on Avon is 5 minutes away and has a great Sainsburys supermarket, lovely antique and gift shops, Thai, Chinese, Indian and various restaurants and pubs, quaint tea rooms, fish and chip shop and a health food shop. There is also a friendly Tourist Information centre here who will be willing to help you enjoy your stay.


The area surrounding Holt has lots of lovely walks and cycle rides. There is comprehensive information on local amenities and activities available to you in the barn. The following links will give you some idea of things to do.

Bradford on Avon

This historic Saxon market town has the Kennet and Avon Canal and the River Avon running through it. Wonderful architecture, Tithe Barn, canal walks, numerous pubs, good retaurants and coffee shops. The Local Tourist Information Centre is also here.

City of Bath

World famous medieval Abbey, Roman Baths and Georgian architecture. Superb shopping, restaurants and cafes is aout 10 miles away, read more on our page about Bath.

Longleat Houst and Safari Park

Elizabethan Mansion and the home of Lord Bath. This large estate is well known for the Lions of Longleat in the Safari Park, a wonderful day out for all the family.

Bowood House and Gardens

18th – century house and gardens, the home of the 1st Earl of Shelburne. Wonderful rhododendrons, lake and arboretum.

Castle Combe

Picturesque Cotswold village featured in the film Dr.Doolittle.

Nearby is the racing circuit with various events, karting and race driving school.  Day courses are available.

The American Museum, Bath

The only museum in Europe devoted to American furniture, decorative arts and beautiful quilts.

Westonbirt Arboretum, Nr Tetbury

This National Arboretum is one of the most spectacular in the world. 600 acres of trees and shrubs.

Stonehenge (World Heritage Site)

Ancient stone circle and site of pagan worship on Salisbury Plain.
